Save the date wording examples for 2027 weddings

A save the date needs four things: who is getting married, the date (or season), the city, and a line saying a formal invitation will follow. Everything else is decoration. Here are formats you can copy, matched to our editable templates.

Casual

Maya & Jonas are getting married! Save the date for September 18, 2027, in Portland, Oregon. Formal invitation to follow.

Formal

Mr. and Mrs. Okonkwo request the honor of your presence as their daughter weds. Save the date: June 12, 2027, Nairobi.

Destination wedding

We're doing it on the beach. Save the date: March 3-7, 2027, Diani Beach, Kenya. Accommodation details to come with your invitation.

The line people forget: "formal invitation to follow" (or "invitation and details to come"). It tells guests not to book travel before they know the details, and it buys you time to send invitations eight weeks out.

Timing: send save the dates six to eight months before the wedding, or as soon as the date is set if that window is shorter. For destination weddings, add two months.

All of our save the date templates edit in your browser, so you can paste in any of these formats and swap the names tonight.
